In a letter to the Diocese of Savannah today, Archbishop Hartmayer communicated the news that
all public masses have been suspended within the Diocese until 4/01/2020:
"As we continue to monitor the coronavirus pandemic, the Centers for Disease Control has issued a directive to limit the number of people who can gather in one place at the same time to 50. As a result of this strong recommendation and in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Atlanta, there are to be no public Masses celebrated in the parish churches or missions in the diocese of Savannah beginning immediately. This also includes the celebration of Confirmation”
Additionally, during this period, “[w]eddings and funerals should be limited to family members only.”
While church offices will be closed to the public, priests should continue to be notified by the church’s emergency number(s) if there is a need for Anointing of the Sick or Last Rites, or in the event of a death.
The Archbishop also stressed the importance of encouraging the lay faithful to “continue to support their parish church through online giving or by mail” during this period.
